The Conservatory of Performing Arts at Point Park University invites applications for Assistant Professor of Dance with a concentration in Commercial Jazz Dance, a tenure-track position, starting August 2019. 

This position requires a professional artist with a national/international performing, teaching, creative and/or scholarly profile. The successful candidate will have expertise and experience teaching at the university level with a demonstrated commitment towards training pre-professional dancers to be successful in a rapidly changing and diverse dance industry.

Responsibilities: Must be able to teach all levels of commercial jazz dance with an emphasis on hip-hop and/or street jazz. Must also be able to teach at least one of the following: cross-cultural dance studies, dance history, composition, improvisation, somatic practice, dance science, dance technology, and/or dance entrepreneurship. There are also opportunities to teach in other areas of specialization.

Principal responsibilities include teaching, staging or choreographing works, serving on departmental and university-wide committees and significant advising and mentoring of students on both academic and career goals. Must maintain creative and professional activity as a requirement for successful retention, tenure and promotion.

Qualifications: An MFA in Dance, Choreography or related terminal degree, is desirable, or must be completed by the end of the sixth year of the appointment. A minimum of 3 years of effective university teaching and/or extensive professional teaching experience is required.  Must have at least five years of professional dance experience.  Demonstrated extensive creative and/or scholarly activity in the dance field.  Must be able to articulate how trends in the profession affect and effect conservatory dance training to help shape curricula aimed at developing professional dance artists. Candidates with experience working with diverse student populations and/or committed to diversity and inclusion through student engagement, teaching, scholarship and service, are of particular interest to the Department and the University.
