Nicole Paxinos

How did you land your part-time job with PensTV?

2013 alumna Celina Pompeani shared the news about the position and I knew I had to apply. I grew up in a family that loves hockey – especially the Pittsburgh Penguins – and if I was going to work in sports, I wanted it to be hockey. It all worked out perfectly!

What are your key responsibilities as a host for PensTV?

My responsibilities include: preparing notes and writing my on-camera-script for the events that I cover, creating interview questions and editing my packages/videos.

What’s it like working with alumna Celina Pompeani?

It has been so amazing! Celina is a great friend and a mentor. Her work ethic is definitely contagious! It's been a blast getting to work with her.

Why did you choose to attend Point Park for your major?

In high school I took a sports, arts and entertainment management class in conjunction with Point Park, and I fell in love with the Downtown Pittsburgh campus. That encouraged me to explore Point Park's School of Communication, which I heard many great things about. I knew I wanted to stay close to home and Point Park had everything that I was looking for on my college wish list!

In what ways has your Point Park experience created a pathway to your career?

Point Park prepares you for the real world. You learn everything you need to know to be successful in the field you desire. In the School of Communication, you’ll learn how to write in broadcast style, conduct interviews, on-camera reporting skills and so much more. Also, having professors who have either been in the business – or are still in the business – that you are studying is incredible. You get to hear about their real-world experiences and advice first-hand, and it’s truly amazing!

What advice do you have for someone considering Point Park University?

If you want to get hands-on experience in your field beginning day one, Point Park is the perfect place. Going to college in the middle of Downtown Pittsburgh opens up so many doors for your career. Take on as many opportunities as you can because you never know what door that will open for you in the future!
